Not a bad ride for my first race― I placed first in my class, beginner woman 19-29; okay, so technically I was the only one in my class, but I did redeem myself by having the quickest time of all the beginner woman (yes, there were actually more beginner woman than myself). It was just what I needed to feel like I was really getting the hang of it. Now if I could only get myself to put on those clipless pedals (something I've been afraid of for months!)

the secret to having a great race? training hard with other bikers, of course!

If you haven't had the opportunity, I highly recommend stopping in for a beer at the Dogpatch. Sure, when they say "biker bar" they're not talking about us- but on a cold rainy evening when the only place to seek shelter was a leaky tent, it was a perfect spot. The bartender― I think Shannon― was the best too. Here we were soaking wet and penniless― having failed to remember to bring any cash with us in our mad dash out of the rain. When we realized that the ATM was out of order we had already ordered a round of beers conveniently totaling $6.00― exactly the amount of cash I had wadded up in my pocket. Needless to say nothing left over for a tip. We both worked in bars― no tip. . . big jerk. She was totally cool. We did promise we'd be back after the race the next day with some cash― a promise we most definitely lived up to.

So remember― if you're heading to the Patch― don't worry about wearing your chaps, but definitely bring some cash!

my girl, always numero uno with me!

Hamin' it up-- but how could you not? It's the one and only time where I've actually got to stand on a podium. Sure it was at the encouragement of Mom, but really....how much possibly cooler could you ever feel. I'm living every little girls dream...
